Preventive action
PAS 55-1:2008, Asset Management: Part 1: Specification for the optimized management of physical assets, written by the Institute of Asset Management, and published by BSi in September 2008, defines preventive action as: ‘action to eliminate the cause of a potential nonconformity or other undesirable potential situation NOTE 1 There can be more than one cause for a potential nonconformity. NOTE 2 Preventive action is taken to prevent occurrence whereas corrective action is taken to prevent recurrence. [BS EN ISO 9000:2005, 3.6.4]’
It defines nonconformity as: ‘non-fulfilment of a requirement [BS EN ISO 9000:2005, 3.6.2; BS OHSAS 18001:2007, 3.11] NOTE A nonconformity can be any deviation from: asset management system requirements; relevant work standards, practices, procedures, legal requirements, etc.’
